Tommy is currently President/CEO of First Piedmont Corporation a privately owned Waste Hauling and Disposal Company operating in North Carolina and Virginia with the corporate office located in Chatham, VA.
FPC operates over 70 trucks hauling residential, commercial and industrial waste and certain hazardous waste. FPC also owns and operates an industrial waste landfill, two solid waste transfer stations and a recycling facility. Tommy joined First Piedmont in 1980 after graduating from Virginia Tech. He has been involved with all aspects of developing First Piedmont over the past 35 years.
In January 1990 Tommy was involved in the formation of Envirotech Mid-Atlantic, Inc. a joint venture with Envirotech Systems of Houston, TX. The company was established to perform thermal and bioremediation of petroleum soils, various environmental consulting services such as site assessments and an environmental laboratory located at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.
In March 1990 he was elected Managing Partner of the joint venture while continuing to work with First Piedmont’s operations. The joint venture, which was sold in 1996 had approximately 50 employees and operated in nine states.
First Piedmont has continued to grow over the past years expanding into new markets through acquisitions, start-up operations and substantial organic growth.
