Henry Kerfoot is a Principal in the Phoenix office of Civil and Environmental Consultants. He has used geochemical and physical testing and mass and heat transport modeling to solve issues at landfill issues involving gas migration, groundwater impacts, and reactions within the waste for over 35 years in the US and internationally. He has been dealing with mitigation of elevated landfill temperatures, characterizing the reactions occurring, developing early-warning parameters for elevated temperatures, and designing design and operation changes to help avoid future elevated temperature sites. He is currently evaluating the performance of several cooling measures to characterize their performance and capital and operating costs and recently presented an assessment of the reactions occurring in elevated temperature landfills that explained the symptoms observed at these sites.
